Leveraging data collected from 482 accommodation establishments through an online survey and complemented by semi-structured interviews with managers at select establishments, this study offers a comprehensive examination of the challenges confronting the sector. The research explores a range of essential dimensions, including health and safety protocols, shifting demand patterns, technological adaptations, and the integration of sustainability measures, all within the unique context of the South African accommodation industry. The findings illuminate the nuanced response strategies employed by these establishments in a region characterized by diverse economic and social factors.
